Valerie Bouchard
- Customized Employment Graduate Assistant, Fall 2002
- Degree: completing a M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling Education
I actually showed up at Center on Disability and Employment a week
early to begin my internship for the TCEP
project (Tennessee Customized Employment Partnership). Any indication
of my enthusiasm? At least I wasn't a week late.
So, when I began on August 19, 2002 and was 'inundated' with information
about the organization and more acronyms than I thought was ever
possible to arrange. I did manage, however, to sift through all
the information and learn all about what everyone at the Center
is involved with. I completed my internship in December 2002 and
was offered the position of Customized Employment Specialist that
I transitioned into on January 6 of this year. Some of my responsibilities
include, but are not limited to the following: assist job seekers
in developing personal career plans, perform ongoing support and
follow up support to job seekers, identify job leads with area businesses
and maintain case files, assist in report writing and self determination
training.
My learning experience was unparalleled during the internship and
my work continues to provide me with valuable learning experiences
and countless opportunities to utilize my knowledge, skills and
abilities.
